Empowering Early Childhood Education in Stark County

Established in 2000 with the support of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, the Early Childhood Resource Center (ECRC) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of early childhood education and care in Stark County, Ohio. This vital organization provides training, accreditation classes, technical assistance, and mentoring for early childhood professionals, ensuring that children receive the best possible start in life.

A Community-Driven Initiative

In 2010, the ECRC launched a successful capital campaign to acquire a new facility, which now features a children’s library, a production and craft lab, a large classroom, and both indoor and outdoor play areas. This expansion allowed the Center to begin serving families with young children in 2011, offering parenting courses and support services that empower parents to engage in their children's education.

SPARK: A Pathway to Kindergarten Readiness

In 2013, the ECRC became the parent organization for the SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) program, which focuses on kindergarten readiness. This free, family-centered initiative connects parents with specially trained partners who provide resources and support to help children develop essential skills for school success. SPARK families receive books, supplies, and guidance to foster academic and social-emotional development.

Building Stronger Families and Communities

In collaboration with the Ohio Division of Child Support, the ECRC has also prioritized parenting education for non-custodial fathers, further strengthening family dynamics. The Center's designation as the Child Care Resource and Referral agency in 2017 expanded its reach, providing vital resources to early childhood professionals and families across multiple counties.

Celebrating Over 20 Years of Impact

As the ECRC celebrates more than two decades of service, its expanded campus stands as a beacon of hope and support for families and early childhood educators alike. The Center has trained over 11,170 educators, provided 689 hours of professional development, and served 7,693 children and families, making a significant impact on the community.

The SPARK program has proven to be effective, with independent evaluations showing that children who participate significantly outperform their peers in school readiness assessments.
