Our Story
In 2015, the journey of the Dutchess County Pride Center began when a child of two founders came out as transgender. The founders quickly realized that Dutchess County lacked essential therapeutic and social resources for LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly for transgender and gender nonconforming youth. In January 2018, the Dutchess County Pride Center was established to fill this critical void. The first social and support groups for LGBTQ+ teens and TGNC youth were launched, and the community responded with overwhelming enthusiasm, leading to a rapid expansion of services.
Within the first year, programming more than doubled, reflecting the community's urgent need for support. The center has since become a vital hub for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, offering outreach, support groups, and social events aimed at fostering a safe and inclusive environment. The vision is clear: to create a true community center focused on LGBTQ+ issues, where everyone can express their authentic selves without fear.
