Founded in 1918 by Dr. Aaron McDuffie Moore, Durham Colored Library Incorporated is one of Durham’s oldest nonprofit organizations. It was established to provide book-lending services to African Americans during the Jim Crow era, evolving over the years to include educational and cultural initiatives such as the Merrick Washington Magazine and the Techies4Tomorrow project.
Durham Colored Library continues to produce literary and educational projects that enrich the understanding of African American history and culture.
