Durham Children's Initiative

Our Story

In 2008, visionary community leaders in Durham, North Carolina, aspired to create more opportunities for low-wealth children and families. This dream blossomed into the East Durham Children’s Initiative (EDCI), which focused on a single neighborhood. In July 2020, EDCI merged with Partners for Youth Opportunity, expanding its reach and resources. Today, known as the Durham Children’s Initiative (DCI), the organization serves the entire Durham County, committed to walking alongside children, youth, and families on their unique journeys toward college and career.

DCI stands as North Carolina's most comprehensive cradle-to-college and career pipeline, offering high-quality services that aim to improve graduation rates and combat intergenerational poverty. By providing multiple opportunities, DCI empowers youth and their families to thrive.
