Our Story

Founded in 2013 by Chrissie Salazar, Drug Free Punta Gorda (DFPG) emerged from a community-driven initiative aimed at combating substance abuse among the youth of Punta Gorda. The coalition began with a series of meetings with local community and business leaders, culminating in the first official Drug Free Punta Gorda Coalition meeting in April 2014. With the support of the Drug Free Communities Grant awarded in October 2015, DFPG became an independent nonprofit organization in December 2016, dedicated to reducing youth substance use.

Impact

DFPG has made a significant impact on the lives of approximately 3,600 teens each month, along with their families. The 2019 Teens Social Norms Survey revealed a decrease in past 30-day alcohol use among high school students to 26%, a remarkable 9% reduction over five years, showcasing the coalition's effectiveness in fostering a healthier community.
