Our Story
Established in response to the Watts Uprising, Drew Child Development Corporation Inc has been a cornerstone of support for children and families in South Los Angeles. Founded in 1987, this nonprofit emerged from the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, dedicated to addressing the social, racial, and economic disparities faced by the community.
Impact
Each year, Drew CDC serves over 14,000 underserved children from diverse backgrounds, providing essential developmental services. Notably, the organization distributes over 700 backpacks filled with school supplies during its Back 2 School Resource Fair and over 1,200 toys annually during the Winter Wonderland Toy Drive.
