Dress Best for Less

Our Story

In 1982, a group of visionary mothers from Piedmont, California, came together to create a solution for their community. They began collecting unneeded household items and clothing to sell, raising funds for local schools. Starting in an unused room at Haven’s School, the initiative quickly outgrew its space and moved to a storefront on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. This grassroots effort evolved into Dress Best for Less, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting the Piedmont public schools.

Impact

Over the past 40 years, Dress Best for Less has donated more than $1 million to the Piedmont Education Foundation, which promotes academic excellence and supports the Piedmont Unified School District.
