Since 1994, Downwinders at Risk has been the leading advocate for clean air in North Texas. Founded to combat the hazardous waste burning in Midlothian cement plants, this organization has evolved into a powerful regional force for environmental justice. With a commitment to reducing Particulate Matter pollution in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Downwinders has achieved significant victories over the past three decades.

Impact

Downwinders has successfully eliminated thousands of tons of air pollution, closed an illegal lead smelter in Frisco, and passed Dallas’ model gas drilling ordinance, significantly reducing regional smog.
