Our Story

Nuevas Raíces, formerly known as Dormir es Poder, was founded in 2019 by Douglas Winter, who transformed his life after a motorcycle accident. With a passion for humanitarian aid, he dedicated himself to supporting migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. The organization started by distributing camping pads to families in need and has since expanded to include joyful movie nights for children in shelters.
