Our Story
The Dominican Women’s Development Center (DWDC) was founded in 1988 to combat gender subordination and promote self-sufficiency among Dominican women. From humble beginnings in a church, DWDC has evolved into the largest independent Dominican organization in the United States, fostering strong community ties and empowering women to transform their lives.
Our Impact
DWDC serves women and families in the Washington Heights and Inwood communities, providing vital services such as domestic violence support, economic development programs, and early childhood education. Annually, hundreds of women receive assistance through our Domestic Violence Hotline, while many have launched small businesses as Family Day Care providers. Our Mama Tingo Child Care & Learning Center nurtures children aged 2-5, and our Early Head Start program supports families with children aged 0-5. Additionally, our Healthy Families programs reach numerous families each year, ensuring they receive the resources they need.
