Our Story

The Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Wanganui was established to uphold the traditions of St. Dominic, dating back to the founding of the convent of Our Lady of Prouille in 1206. This rich heritage was brought to Ireland in 1640 and eventually to New Zealand in 1871. Officially founded in 2002, the congregation focuses on preserving Dominican customs and providing quality education.

Our Impact

As of April 2023, the Dominican Sisters of Wanganui have expanded to include 20 professed sisters and 2 postulants, all dedicated to enriching the community and educational landscape in New Zealand and beyond.
