Our Story

Founded in 2000, Domestic Workers United (DWU) emerged from the Women Workers Project of CAAAV and Andolan Organizing South Asian Workers. This advocacy group was created to support underpaid and abused domestic workers, primarily from the Caribbean and Latin America. Over the years, DWU has evolved into a fully worker-led organization, dedicated to empowering domestic workers through education, organizing, and cultural activities.

Our Impact

DWU has made significant strides, including the successful passage of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in 2010, the first legislation in the U.S. to extend basic rights and protections to domestic workers. The organization continues to advocate for similar initiatives nationwide while providing essential services such as legal advocacy and healthcare access to its members.
