Our Story

Founded in 2017, Dissenters emerged from a collective of passionate organizers dedicated to challenging militarism and advocating for marginalized communities. This diverse group, including young anti-war activists and abolitionist organizers, recognized the urgent need to connect the dots between domestic and international struggles against violence. After two years of strategic planning and community engagement, Dissenters launched publicly in January 2020, aiming to create a grassroots anti-war movement led by young people of color.

Impact

Dissenters is committed to reclaiming resources from militarism and reinvesting them into life-affirming services. By advocating for the defunding of wars and oppressive systems, the organization envisions a world where everyone has access to jobs, healthcare, and education. Through an abolitionist framework rooted in Black liberation, Dissenters seeks to repair harm and build collaborative relationships that foster safety and self-determination.
