About Discovery Eye Foundation

Founded in 1970 by Rita and Morris Pynoos, the Discovery Eye Foundation (DEF) began as a response to their son Jon's diagnosis of keratoconus. Initially based at the Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles, DEF relocated to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills in the 1980s. In 2002, DEF moved to the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at UC Irvine, where it continues to anchor vital research in eye health.

Impact of Discovery Eye Foundation

DEF provides essential bridge funding for groundbreaking research on various eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
