Our Story

The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1945, was named after conservationist Jay Norwood “Ding” Darling. His advocacy for migratory bird habitat protection laid the foundation for this vital refuge.

Impact

Generating approximately $51 million annually for the local economy, the Refuge employs 12 full-time staff and engages over 250 volunteers, enhancing local conservation efforts.
