The Dilworth Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry was co-founded in 2008 by a dedicated resident and the Reverend of the First Christian Church to address food insecurity during an economic downturn. Starting with just five guests, the kitchen has grown to serve over 200 free lunches each week, adapting its services to meet the community's needs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2024, the Dilworth Soup Kitchen will provide over 21,000 healthy lunches and distribute 50,000 pounds of fresh groceries, significantly alleviating food insecurity in the Charlotte area.
