Our Story
Día de la Mujer Latina became a reality when Venus, alongside the Mexican Consulate’s office, initiated the first culturally relevant Latino family health fiesta. This innovative cultural intervention brought together Latino clubs, private and non-profit organizations, state and county health departments, community merchants, media, volunteers, and healthcare providers to offer early detection and screening for critical health issues such as breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, HIV, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Since its inception on May 10, 1997, over 96,000 Latinas have registered for this one-day health fiesta, with more than 80% receiving patient navigation. This model is now recognized as a best practice and celebrated in 40 cities, including locations in Latin America.
