When COVID-19 struck in Spring 2020, the world faced unprecedented challenges. Universities across the U.S. sent 14 million students home, disrupting their education and career opportunities. In the face of adversity, students demonstrated remarkable resilience and compassion, stepping up to support one another. Recognizing the urgent need for digital access among nonprofits, two Computer Science students from Stanford founded Develop for Good. This innovative organization connects tech-savvy students with nonprofits in need of digital solutions, fostering a spirit of collaboration and social responsibility.

Develop for Good has since evolved into a powerful platform that not only provides students with hands-on project experience but also helps nonprofits achieve their digital goals. By partnering with Silicon Valley tech companies, the organization engages industry professionals as mentors, ensuring that students receive valuable guidance while making a meaningful impact. The Bay Area nonprofit prioritizes accessibility for underserved and underrepresented students in tech, striving to create a diverse pipeline of future tech leaders.

Making a Difference

With over 200,000 technical hours volunteered and 3,100 student and mentor volunteers engaged, Develop for Good has completed more than 230 nonprofit tech projects, saving an estimated $9 million for nonprofits. This initiative not only enhances technical education but also advances digital equity, empowering students to unlock their fullest potential.
