Our Story

Founded in 1988 by John George, Detroit Blight Busters began as a grassroots effort to combat blight and crime in Detroit's northwest side. What started with boarding up an abandoned building has evolved into a dedicated nonprofit focused on eradicating blight, constructing new homes, and fostering local businesses.

Our Impact

Over 35 years, Detroit Blight Busters has mobilized thousands of volunteers, contributing over 658,000 hours to community improvement. The organization has conducted 3,850 neighborhood clean-ups, housed 1,160 people in newly constructed buildings, and demolished over 300 blighted homes.
