Our Story
In 2006, a dedicated group of volunteers initiated a summer reading program for the Mount Vernon Boys Basketball team, aiming to enhance academic eligibility for NCAA scholarships. This initiative quickly evolved into Destination College, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting student athletes across various high schools. Today, DC offers a comprehensive suite of services including weekly reading groups, academic tutoring, SAT preparation, and college application assistance.
Impact
Destination College has made a significant impact on the lives of its students. In Fall 2022, 141 alums enrolled in 71 colleges and universities. The retention rates of DC students far exceed national averages, showcasing the effectiveness of the program. For instance, the Class of 2018 achieved a remarkable persistence rate into their fourth year of college, highlighting the long-term success of the support provided.
