Our Story

In 2014, a dedicated group of advocates and experts united to address alarming changes in the lower Deschutes River. Observations of declining insect populations, increasing nuisance algae, and rising water temperatures prompted action. These changes coincided with alterations in water management by Portland General Electric at its Deschutes dams. With a commitment to restoring the river's health, the Deschutes River Alliance was formed, utilizing science as the foundation of its advocacy for a cooler, cleaner river.

Our Impact

The Deschutes River Alliance is a science-based nonprofit dedicated to finding collaborative solutions to the threats facing the Wild and Scenic Deschutes River and its tributaries. The focus is on advocating for colder, cleaner water, a thriving ecosystem, and the recovery of fish populations.
