Our Story

Denise Louie Education Center has been a beacon of hope for vulnerable children and families since 1978. Founded by Uncle Bob Santos in the wake of a devastating fire that displaced many families, the center was named in honor of Denise Louie, a young Chinese-American activist dedicated to revitalizing Seattle’s International District. Starting in the basement of a school, DLEC has evolved to provide essential early childhood education services to immigrant and refugee families, focusing on cultural inclusion and kindergarten readiness.

Impact

Serving families from north Seattle to south-end neighborhoods, DLEC ensures that over 80% of families, who speak a language other than English at home, receive no-cost programs that emphasize the importance of home, school, culture, community, and inclusion.

Why Donate?

Your donation to DLEC supports early childhood education for low-income, immigrant, and refugee families, helping to close the opportunity gap and prepare children for success in school and life.
