In 2005, Franklin Voorhes volunteered in Guatemala and met coffee farmers in San Miguel Escobar. Inspired by their vision for sustainable coffee cultivation, he helped them improve their quality of life. This led to the formation of De La Gente, which now partners with eight cooperatives representing over 140 small-scale coffee producers.
In 2022, De La Gente facilitated women's entrepreneurship training, extended microloans to five second-generation producers, and commercialized over 125,000 pounds of green coffee. Additionally, welcoming over 1,000 tourists generated more than $30,000 for coffee-growing communities.
