Our Story

Founded in 2016 by Pam Siedler, Day of the Dogs emerged from a heartfelt commitment to improve the lives of shelter animals at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. After witnessing the low live release rates, Pam initiated the Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need Facebook page to raise awareness and funds for urgent animal cases. This grassroots effort blossomed into a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on increasing the live release rate through rescue and adoption support.

Our Impact

Day of the Dogs has achieved an impressive 93% save rate for profiled animals, demonstrating a proven method for saving lives. By collaborating with rescue groups, the organization addresses the financial barriers that often prevent rescues from stepping in. Pre-funding the costs of care for shelter animals ensures that rescues have the resources they need to provide safe havens for at-risk cats and dogs.
