Our Story

The Dallas Jewish Historical Society was established in 1971 by a dedicated group of individuals who recognized the urgent need to preserve the rich history of the Greater Dallas Jewish Community. This initiative was sparked by the demolition of Temple Emanu-El’s early South Dallas building, highlighting the importance of safeguarding local Jewish heritage. Over the years, the Society has evolved into a vital partner agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, primarily supported through membership contributions.

Impact

With over 750 personal interviews collected, the DJHS preserves invaluable life lessons and significant events for future generations. It serves as a repository for various Jewish community agencies, maintaining a vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts that illustrate the community's rich history.
