About Dakota Zoo
Founded in 1961 by Marc and Betty Christianson, the Dakota Zoo has transformed from a modest 15-acre facility into a vibrant 90-acre sanctuary for wildlife. With the support of dedicated volunteers and generous donors, the zoo now houses over 600 mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish, representing 125 species. Each year, more than 150,000 visitors come to experience the wonders of nature and learn about wildlife conservation.
