Our Story

D.C.’s Different Drummers began in 1980 with just seven musicians in a Washington, DC apartment, playing college fight songs. Today, the ensemble has grown to over 125 members, showcasing a diverse range of musical styles including classical, jazz, and contemporary. The organization draws its members from the LGBT community and their allies, fostering a spirit of music and fellowship throughout the National Capital Region.

Impact

With multiple ensembles performing year-round, D.C.’s Different Drummers actively engages the community through music. However, the costs of rehearsal space, instrument maintenance, and travel can be significant. Community support is vital for the continued success and growth of this vibrant organization.
