About Czar's Promise

What began as a heartwarming love story between a Great Pyrenees puppy named Czar and his owner has transformed into a powerful movement against canine cancer. In 2001, Czar entered the lives of many, bringing joy and comfort to those in need. His gentle spirit and unwavering loyalty made him a beloved companion, especially during his time at Oakwood Lutheran Homes and American Family Children’s Hospital.

However, in 2012, Czar was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a devastating form of bone cancer. Despite the heart-wrenching news, Czar's spirit remained unbroken. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, he continued to spread love and joy for 19 more months, until he passed away in 2013. In his memory, a promise was made to fight against canine cancer and support families facing similar challenges.

Mission and Impact

Czar's Promise is the first organization in the United States dedicated to addressing both canine and pediatric cancer. The mission focuses on three key areas: providing financial, educational, and emotional support to families with pets diagnosed with cancer; funding pediatric cancer research at UW Health Kids; and supporting companion animal cancer research at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.

Since its inception, Czar's Promise has united the Madison, Dane County, and southern Wisconsin communities in the fight against cancer. The organization has successfully funded critical research initiatives, ensuring that families have access to the resources they need during difficult times.
