Since its inception in 1962, the Cumberland County Guidance Center has been a beacon of hope for individuals seeking mental health care in Millville, New Jersey. Originally operating from a modest house donated by the Second Methodist Church, the Center has grown significantly over the decades. Today, it boasts a dedicated team of over 175 professionals and serves more than 5,000 residents annually from its tranquil 26-acre campus at 2038 Carmel Road.

Our Journey

The journey of the Guidance Center began with a pressing need for mental health services in the community. Under the leadership of the late Dr. William D. Fenton, the Center expanded its facilities and services through grants, including the Community Mental Health Act. This funding allowed for the construction of new buildings and the development of both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

Throughout its history, the Guidance Center has been at the forefront of mental health innovation, establishing satellite offices in the mid-1970s to better reach those in need. The Center has secured numerous federal grants to maintain its high-quality programs, including specialized services for children and crisis intervention.
