About the Crisis Center for South Suburbia

The Crisis Center for South Suburbia has been a beacon of hope for victims of domestic violence for over 40 years. Founded in 1979, the organization began its journey in 1976 when a dedicated group of women recognized the urgent need to address domestic violence in the south suburbs of Chicago. Starting with a hotline in a kitchen, the initiative quickly evolved into a full-fledged support system for survivors.

Today, the Crisis Center operates a 54-bed emergency shelter, providing a safe haven for those escaping abusive situations. With over 285,000 nights of shelter and more than 705,000 hours of supportive services delivered, the impact on the community is profound. The center employs over 75 diverse professionals committed to meeting the growing needs of survivors, all while maintaining an operating budget exceeding $7 million.
