Empowering Native Communities
Fighting Systemic Racism
Promoting Lakota Culture

Our Story

COUP Council, formerly known as One Rapid City, was established in 2018 to combat discrimination and uplift marginalized communities in the He Sapa region. Through Community Talking Circles, the organization identified pressing issues that shaped its programs. In 2022, the name change to COUP Council marked a commitment to a Native, women-led approach, focusing on retaining Lakota culture and fostering collective power for justice and healing in Oceti Sakowin territory.

Our Impact

COUP Council is dedicated to empowering Native relatives in the Mni Luzahan (Rapid City, SD) and He Sapa (Black Hills) region. The organization addresses systemic racism, discrimination, and oppression through direct intervention and supportive programming. By engaging in targeted nonviolent actions, COUP Council strives to create a more equitable environment for Native community members, who have historically faced racial discrimination and violent policing.
