In 1972, alarming studies revealed that over 300,000 Jews in New York City were living in poverty. This led to the establishment of the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty, known as Met Council. Today, this organization stands as the largest Jewish charity in America, dedicated to combating poverty and serving over 325,000 clients across New York City and its surrounding areas.
