Transforming Lives Through Community Support

Since 1982, the Council for Developmental Disabilities Inc., known as ABLE Community Based Services, has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults with developmental disabilities in Norman, Oklahoma. Founded by a compassionate group of teachers, parents, and professionals, ABLE emerged from a pressing need for meaningful opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The journey began with a sheltered job workshop that served just six adults, and has since blossomed into a comprehensive support system.

Comprehensive Services for Independence

Today, ABLE operates four group homes and three Direct Living-Assistance Services homes, providing a nurturing environment for up to thirty-seven residents. With trained staff available around the clock, residents receive the support they need to develop daily living skills and gain greater autonomy. Vocational programs, including a Sheltered Workshop and Community Integrated Employment, empower clients to acquire marketable skills and earn income through meaningful work.
