Our Story
Cornerstone Family Ministries has a rich history that began in 1892, rooted in compassion and community service. In a time when segregation limited opportunities for immigrant families in Tampa, Rosa Valdez and Eliza Wolff took a stand. Rosa, a Hispanic woman, opened a small school for immigrant children, while Eliza advocated for a mission school through the Women’s Home Missionary Society. Their dedication laid the groundwork for what is now known as Cornerstone Family Ministries.
As public schools began to welcome Latino children, Cornerstone expanded its mission to address the broader needs of families, offering cooking and sewing classes to empower parents and enhance the home environment. Today, Cornerstone Family Ministries continues to evolve, serving children from diverse backgrounds in Tampa’s inner city. The organization focuses on education and Christian character building, equipping families to overcome challenges and fostering hope for a brighter future.
Impact
Each year, Cornerstone Family Ministries serves nearly 17,000 children across five Florida counties, providing access to nutritious food, quality early childhood education, and opportunities to connect with the love of Jesus Christ through local churches.
