Our Story

Founded in 1997 by brothers Joe and Jeff Berninger, Cooperative for Education (CoEd) was born from a desire to support education in Guatemala. After witnessing the lack of resources in schools during their volunteer work, they dedicated themselves to breaking the cycle of poverty through education. CoEd provides textbooks, technology, and scholarships to students in rural areas, focusing on sustainable educational programs that empower both students and communities.

CoEd has positively impacted hundreds of thousands of students, teachers, and families in Guatemala. Their programs have significantly improved literacy rates and educational outcomes, particularly among Indigenous populations.
