About Cooley’s Anemia Foundation
For over sixty years, the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation (CAF) has been a beacon of hope for families affected by thalassemia. Founded in 1954 by Frank Ficarra in Brooklyn, New York, CAF began as a grassroots effort to support children suffering from this rare blood disease. What started as local blood drives has evolved into a national and international organization dedicated to improving the lives of those living with thalassemia.
Our Impact
CAF has established the first Fellowship Program for thalassemia research, significantly advancing medical knowledge and treatment options. The organization has become a powerful advocate in Washington, ensuring that the voices of thalassemia patients and their families are heard. Through outreach and education, CAF has improved health outcomes for countless individuals across the United States and beyond.
