Our Story

The Congenital Heart Defects Families Association was founded by Valerie Janke Rexin and Julie Thomas, both of whom have faced the challenges of congenital heart defects through their children. Valerie's son Noah tragically passed away due to complications from heart surgery, inspiring her to create a supportive community for families in similar situations. Julie's son Atley also battled serious heart issues, motivating her to dedicate her life to helping others. This volunteer-run organization focuses on providing essential resources and support to families in need.

Impact

In the Kansas City area, the Congenital Heart Defects Families Association has made a significant difference by offering care packages, organizing support groups, and funding vital research. Events like the Heart Walk raise awareness and funds for congenital heart defects, while the summer camp, Camp Systole, fosters a sense of community among children and their families.
