Our Story

Founded in 1960 by Elaine Mikels, Conard House was the first halfway house in San Francisco, dedicated to creating a transitional community for individuals with mental illness. Over the years, the organization has evolved to focus on supportive housing and mental health services, fostering community building and empowerment. Honoring the legacy of co-founder Conard B. Rheiner, a champion of social work and advocacy, Conard House continues to make a significant impact.
