Our Story
In late 2017, the Rohingya Refugee Crisis captured the attention of a small group in Andover, Massachusetts. The harrowing images of Rohingya families fleeing violence in Myanmar stirred a deep sense of compassion and urgency. Driven by the question, "What if their story was my story?" this group took action. In early 2018, they traveled to Bangladesh to witness the plight of the Rohingya refugees firsthand.
Upon arrival, they collaborated with local organizations and visited refugee camps, where they listened to the heart-wrenching stories of those affected. The team quickly realized that immediate relief was essential. With generous donations, they provided food, established gardens, distributed chickens, and dug a deep tubal well, all of which brought hope and alleviated suffering.
Recognizing the need for long-term solutions, the group focused on education by building and maintaining a school for 60 refugee children. They also forged connections with the Bangladeshi community, addressing the needs of both refugees and local residents facing poverty and hardship. Partnerships with an old-age home in Dhaka and an orphanage called The Home of the Champions were established to provide ongoing support and education for vulnerable populations.
Since its inception as a 501c3 nonprofit, Compassion Takes Action has continued to organize impactful projects year-round, returning to Bangladesh annually to deliver essential supplies such as school kits, hygiene kits, quilts, and computer equipment. Each visit strengthens personal connections, evaluates past projects, and collaborates with local communities to design future initiatives.
