The Community Science Institute (CSI) is dedicated to empowering communities in New York to safeguard their water resources through scientific literacy and volunteer monitoring. Founded in 2000, CSI opened its certified lab in 2003 and has since engaged volunteers in monitoring water quality across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions, addressing critical environmental issues.
In 2023, over 250 dedicated volunteers partnered with CSI to collect more than 5,900 water quality data items, significantly enhancing the understanding and protection of local water resources.
