Our Story
Founded in 1981 by Ann Connor and A.B. Short, the Community of Hospitality began with the Oakhurst Hospitality House, a cold-weather night shelter in Decatur, Georgia. The following year, a nearby dilapidated house was transformed into a year-round refuge for guests from the shelter, evolving into a vibrant community of full-time volunteers. COH proudly opened Café 458, the world’s first sit-down, reservation-only restaurant for individuals experiencing homelessness. Over the years, COH has fostered a relationship-based approach to social transformation, drawing people from around the globe to share in the mission of healing and community support.
