Our Story
Founded in 1979 by Patricia Johnson and Ron Scales, the Community Music Center of Houston (CMCH) began as the Society for the Preservation of Spirituals. Over the years, it has evolved to encompass a broader mission of preserving various black music traditions. CMCH has a rich history of community engagement, music education, and performance, including the formation of the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and collaborations with notable artists and organizations.
