Our Story
The Community Library of the Shenango Valley has a rich history that began in 1903, when library services were initially available only to members of the F. H. Buhl Club. Recognizing the need for free access to literature, community leaders initiated a referendum in 1922, leading to the establishment of the Sharon Free Public Library in 1923. The library quickly became a beloved resource, with nearly 2,000 registrations in its first year.
Over the decades, the library expanded its services, opening children's branches in local elementary schools and eventually relocating to a larger facility on Sharpsville Avenue due to overcrowding. In 2007, the library transitioned to a private non-profit organization, governed by a dedicated Board of Directors. In 2016, the library further extended its reach by incorporating the Stey-Nevant Public Library as a branch, ensuring that even more community members have access to vital resources.
