Our Story

In 2017, the Missions’ Committee and Crown Point First United Methodist Church recognized a pressing issue: food insecurity among local students. Many children who qualified for the "free lunch" program were going without adequate meals during weekends and school breaks. To combat this, they adopted the Buddy Bags program from Kokomo Urban Outreach, which provided essential meals and snacks for students during these critical times.

What began as a small initiative in one school quickly expanded to three schools by the end of the school year. By 2020, the program had outgrown the resources available through the church, leading to the formation of the Community Help Network. With new space in the ARC building warehouse, the Buddy Bag Program has now grown to serve over 750 food-insecure students across twenty-two schools in four school districts.

In January 2021, the Community Help Network further expanded its mission by launching a Household Pantry, providing cleaning supplies, paper products, and hygiene items to low-income families in South Lake County. This initiative now supports 100 families every month, ensuring that essential household needs are met.
