Our Story

In 1971, the People’s Free Clinic opened its doors in a small storefront in Burlington’s Old North End. The founders believed that every individual, regardless of age, race, class, or gender, deserves access to quality medical care, irrespective of their ability to pay. In 1989, CHCB became a Healthcare for the Homeless Program grantee, making it the only organization in Vermont with this designation. Today, CHCB serves over 32,000 patients, ensuring that everyone has access to affordable, quality health care.
