Our Story

Founded in April 2020, the Community Economic Defense Project (CEDP) emerged from the urgent need to protect Colorado renters from eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Spearheaded by Zach Neumann and Sam Gilman, this all-volunteer initiative quickly evolved into a comprehensive support system for those facing housing instability. By integrating services such as rapid rental aid payments, eviction legal defense, and rehousing support, CEDP has successfully assisted over 31,000 individuals, disbursing more than $100 million in rental assistance.

Our Impact

With a commitment to addressing the intersectionality of housing and economic instability, CEDP has distributed $150 million in financial assistance, serving a diverse clientele where 74% identify as BIPOC or Hispanic/Latino.
