Community Cycling Center

Our Story

Over 30 years ago, founder Brian Lacy recognized a need in the Alberta Street neighborhood of Portland. Kids were riding bikes that needed repairs, and as a trained mechanic, Lacy had a vision: teach these children how to fix their own bikes. This initiative not only empowered the youth but also fostered a sense of community. As more community members began donating bikes, the bicycle transformed into a powerful tool for empowerment. Today, the Community Cycling Center operates a full-service bike shop, helping riders build skills and confidence while promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation.

By broadening access to bicycling, the Community Cycling Center provides individuals—especially from underserved communities—with an affordable, healthy, and environmentally friendly way to navigate their neighborhoods.
