Our Story
The Community Assistance Center, founded in 1958, began as an all-volunteer agency dedicated to assisting inmates of Oahu Prison reintegrate into society. Originally known as the John Howard Association of Hawai’i, the organization has evolved to provide essential services such as emergency housing assistance, job placement, and clothing for newly-released inmates. In 2003, it adopted its current name, reflecting its broader mission to support the community and the criminal justice system.
