Our Story
Founded a decade ago by Alexander Prokhorov-Tolstoy, a renowned composer and artistic director, the Commonwealth Lyric Theater has rapidly ascended from a small community organization to a beacon of operatic excellence. Originally set out to showcase Eastern European operas to Boston's discerning audiences, CLT has broadened its repertoire to include Western classics from Mozart to Bizet and Sullivan. This unique blend of opera stars from the world’s top theaters, such as the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala, with emerging local talent has earned the theater three first-place awards at the United States National Opera Association competitions.
