Our Story

Established in 1872, Randolph Cemetery is the first formal private cemetery for African Americans in Columbia, SC. It honors the legacy of Senator Benjamin F. Randolph and serves as a final resting place for many notable figures from the Reconstruction and Civil Rights eras. The Committee for the Beautification and Restoration of Randolph Cemetery is dedicated to restoring and securing this historic site, fostering community engagement, and educating the public about its significance.

Impact

With the support of state and county grants, the CBRRC has successfully restored several headstones and cemetery features. However, ongoing restoration efforts are essential to maintain the cemetery's historical integrity and beauty.
